Materials

I think that I want to make this baby carrier vest so that it can be, for the most part, functional and as close to the BCIA https://babycarrierindustryalliance.org/ standards as possible so that its a product and art piece as close to being ready to go to shelves as possible. For this purpose, I think that I'd like to use an ecoflex silicone offered by smooth-on, since it is offered at a cheaper price. The ecoflex 50 should work because I would like to slush throughout my mold so that the form will (hopefully) come out hollow. I would then like to fill the form with a light cotton quilt batting (Joann fabrics $7.79). After that I will sew the silicone and a tencel wood fiber fabric, typically used in workout clothing, together with the batting sandwiched between ($16.00/2yd). I would also like to get Kevlar to sew all of the points of tension (i.e. where the straps attache to the carrier, where the carrier straps connect in the back) out of Kevlar ($13.99/ yd amazon) or gortex, which is typically used on hunting, camping, and climbing clothes since it is waterproof and breathable(weathertek grey $12.99/yd.).

My overall cost at this point in time would be
$76.37

Other items that could potentially bring up costs would be buckles, additional silicone or filler material, or additional, thicker padding for straps, or internal structure elements for the carrier. I am currently researching styles of carriers and sewing patterns to determine which of these might crop up.
